Biome
Biomes are regions on any Asteroid or Planetoid, with each containing anywhere from 2 to 11 Biomes. Some biomes can only be found on specific worlds, and some biomes are completely missing from games generated with certain settings
General
There are 22 different biomes in the game. Each biome contains different resources, critters, and plants, and are mostly separated by veins of Abyssalite or
Granite.
Although each biome has a color shading applied to it that stays after the biome is mined out, there are no special properties beyond the contents of the biomes. (As an example, the Tundra Biome does not cool itself, only starting out cold and cooling through Wheezeworts, which can be removed).

The location of each Biome varies depending on the Asteroid or Planetoid. See corresponding world pages for more details.
Biome Descriptions
Base Game
Sandstone Biome
Commonly refered to as the Temperate Biome, it is one of the possible starting biomes. It contains helpful early-game materials such as Water,
Dirt,
Algae, and
Coal. It also contains both early-game plant species; Mealwood and Bristle Blossom. The Shine Bugs and Hatches that are found here also also useful critters for a colony just starting out.
Forest Biome
One of the possible starting biomes. It is a more challenging biome to survive in compared to the Sandstone Biome given less Water and the complete lack of
Algae and
Coal. The Oxyfern plants generated here are capable of turning
Carbon Dioxide to
Oxygen; although this oxygen generation is often insufficient to sustain a colony permanently. The presence of both Arbor Trees and Pips make early food production with Mealwood far more sustainable
Given there are less resources that are immediately useful to the player; branching out to other parts of the Asteroid is encouraged.
Barren Biome
A great early source of Refined Iron and
Coal, the biome is rather barren beyond this; completely lacking life of any sort.
In ; some variants are more similar to variants of the Forest Biome than the Barren Biome; generating with
Aluminum Ore, Pips, and Arbor Trees.
Tundra Biome
A frigid biome made primarily of Snow,
Ice, and
Polluted Ice. Sleet Wheat and
Wolframite are also found here; and are incredibly useful. Wolframite is a precursur for the highest melting point metal in the game, and the highest overheat temperature modifier in the game; while Sleet Wheat is an excellent source of both early and late-game foods.
The Anti Entropy Thermo-Nullifier can also be found here; which comsumes Hydrogen and deletes heat while running.
Jungle Biome
Commonly refered to as the Caustic Biome, this is the home of the Drecko and Pincha Peppernut. Drecko's are an excellent source of Reed Fiber and
Plastic. Pincha Peppernuts are a required ingredient in many late-game food options; notably Spicy Tofu and Pepper Bread. The atmosphere here is a mix of
Chlorine and
Hydrogen; both potentially very useful; especially in deep freezers.
Magma Biome
Appears at the very bottom of several asteroids or when specific World Traits are present. It contains large amounts of Magma,
Obsidian, and small amounts of
Neutronium which cannot be destroyed.
Marsh Biome
Filled with Polluted Oxygen,
Polluted Water, and Slimelung-infested
Slime, this biome is also an excellent source of
Gold Amalgam.
This biome is filled with organic material. Plenty of Algae along with all the
Slime; its also home to Pacu, Pufts, and Dusk Caps. The Thimble Reed plants are one of the primary ways of obtaining
Reed Fiber.
Ocean Biome
Commonly referred to as the Tide Pool Biome, this is the home of the Pokeshell. Fossil,
Sand, and
Salt Water are very common here. There is also
Sedimentary Rock here; which can be used to increase the chances of Hatches laying a Stone Hatchling Egg. Waterweed can be found here; which is required in the production of Frost Burgers.
Oily Biome
Often located near the bottom of the map; this biome is the primary source of Crude Oil; which is a precursur for several useful materials which will greatly help with game progression. Slicksters are also found here; which turn
Carbon Dioxide into Oil. This biome is dangerous; the heat can easily scald Duplicants and the germs released by the Sporechids here can cripple a duplicant for several cycles.
If the asteroid has Irregular Oil World Trait during world generation, the Oily Biome may appear anywhere in the map.
Rust Biome
A chilly biome full of Rust,
Iron, and
Chlorine. Depending on variant, a wide range of plants and critters can be found; notably Nosh Sprouts and Dasha Saltvines; which are exclusive to this biome. The
Rust in this biome can be combined with salt to produce
Oxygen; great for when other options are impractical or impossible.
Space Biome
The surface of every asteroid. In the base game; it contains Mafic Rock,
Regolith, and
Granite in the upper layers, and
Igneous Rock can be found in the lower layers. In
the surface makeup of planetoids varies greatly between planetoids.
Meteor Showers can randomly happen and bring several useful materials to the asteroid.
Gases and liquids are sucked into the vacuum of space through the open background, deleting them, and in the absence of gases heat can not dissipate from materials and objects. Adding Drywalls helps to construct rooms that can hold air and liquid.

Swampy Biome
One of the possible starting biomes; this biome is filled with Polluted Water and
Polluted Oxygen. With the amount of off-gassing materials that make up this biome, like
Polluted Dirt and
Polluted Mud, keeping a breathable atmosphere for your Duplicants is not difficult. Its important to note that the off-gassing does consume the tile it emits from; slowly. This can cause pools of liquid to suddenly open up and spill into unwanted areas as natural tiles disappear.
With Pacu spawning here; its also relatively simple to set up food production; and get a considerable amount of Lime in the process.
Aquatic Biome
Found exclusively on the Water Asteroid, it is the only source of Graphite, a resource used in the production
Fullerene, which itself is the precursor of
Super Coolant. The Biome is drowing in
Water making traversal difficult and atmo Suits a requirement to get to any reasonable depth.
Lime is also found in large amounts here.
Metallic Biome
A large source of metal ores; notably Gold Amalgam. Also contains useful amounts of
Dirt,
Coal, and
Oxylite.
Moo Biome
Found exclusively on the Moo Asteroid, it is the only biome where Gassy Moos and Gas Grass can be found. The temperature is cold enough to freeze chlorine; and there is no naturally available breathable gas.
Niobium Biome
Found exclusively on the Superconductive Asteroid, it contains the only source of Niobium.
Radioactive Biome
A frigidly cold biome able to freeze Carbon Dioxide and
Chlorine and in some cases even cause Frostbite; it is the only source of Beetas and thus the best conversion ratio of
Uranium Ore to
Enriched Uranium. This biome is also a source of
Wolframite.
Regolith Biome
Found exclusively on the Regolith Asteroid. Outside of Classic Starts; this is the only place where Shove Voles can be found.
Wasteland Biome
The home of the Divergents and the symbiotic Grubfruit Plant. The wasteland features a breathable atmosphere; making exploration easy; and is also filled with Sulfur; making ranching and cultivating the plants and critters here simple; although sustaining this will require a Sulfur Geyser at some point. There is also a diverse set of minerals contained here; which is unusual for biomes with most only having just one; not including the biomes border.

Ice Cave Biome
The starting biome for every Ceres start. It contains large amounts of Snow and
Ice, with plenty of
Oxylite spread about. The temperature means
Water for research is difficult to obtain without an Ice Liquefier as melting the biome itself isn't recommended due to Liquefiable materials making up a vast majority of the biomes tile count and mass. The biome also contains both Pikeapple Bushes and Floxes; useful for
Wood and
Phosphorite generation in the cold.
Cool Pool Biome
The Ceres alternative to the Jungle Biome. With a source of Iron Ore and
Reed Fiber; its essential to exploit this to progress in the bitter cold. It also contains
Sucrose which can be useful when ranching Spigot Seal.
Nectar Biome
The Ceres alternative to the Oily Biome. It is dominated by frigid cold temperatures and is the home of the Spigot Seals and Bonbon Trees. Nectar from the trees can be turned into plastic directly though a Polymer Press or into
Ethanol through Seal ranching.

Garden Biome
The starting biome for every Relica start. It contains a variety of basic resources, including Water,
Dirt, and
Peat. It also has several unique plants, including sprawling Ovagro Vines, Sweatcorn, the unusual Mimika Bud and their Mimikas, and the non-propogating Snactus, and is also home to the Lumb. It is warmer than most starting biomes.
Feather Biome
The Relica alternative to the Jungle Biome/Tundra Biome. It has caverns filled with Chlorine, which are inhabited by Rhexes and their prey Dartles, which eat from the Dew Dripper plants. Chlorine-consuming Megafrond plants also grow here. This biome has cold temperatures and large deposits of
Iron Ore.
Wetlands Biome
The Relica alternative to the Marsh Biome/Oily Biome. It shares much in common with the Marsh Biome, including the lakes of Polluted Water and their resident Pacus, the warm temperatures, and deposits of
Gold Amalgam, which are sparsely present in this biome. Unlike the Marsh Biome, there is an absence of
Slime, Thimble Reeds, and Pufts, instead being home to the carnivorous Jawbo, irritating Gnits,
Amber-producing Luras, and aquatic Seakomb, an important industrial ingredient.
