Gold Amalgam is a Metal Ore found in the Marsh Biome in small to modest abundance. It is used as a specialist construction material and can be refined into pure Gold.

Gold Amalgam can also be brought by Meteor Showers in Space Biomes.

Usage

Gold Amalgam can be used in similar fashion to other Metal Ores, and is typically found in small to medium sized nodes in marsh biomes. Gold Amalgam shares the 10% decor bonus with Copper Ore, and provides anything created from it with a 50 degree higher overheat temperature. The latter property is useful for allowing machinery that would normally overheat in very hot areas such as steam vents. However, it is fairly poor at general temperature regulation, as it has extremely low Specific Heat Capacity and the lowest Thermal Conductivity among metal ores. Meaning that machines made from Gold heat up quickly, and dissipate their heat slowly. Iron Ore has triple the Heat Capacity, and Aluminum Ore has six times the Heat Capacity which allow those metals to absorb significantly more heat even with the lower overheat temperature.

It is beat out by Wolframite when used as material for structures intended for heat exchange, but thanks to heat exchange mechanics this is usually a trivial difference.

• It can be refined into Gold in the Metal Refinery.

• Rock Crusher can break Gold Amalgam into Gold and Sand.

  100 kg Gold Amalgam = 50 kg Gold + 50 kg Sand.

• Stone Hatches can eat Gold Amalgam and excrete Coal. It will increase the chance of laying Smooth Hatch eggs.
• Smooth Hatches can eat Gold Amalgam and excrete Gold.

Production

• A well-fed and satisfied Regal Bammoth grows a crest which can be sheared for a Regal Bammoth Crest every 10 cycles, which can be crushed into 250 kg of Gold Amalgam at a Rock Crusher.
  • This is equivalent to converting 33.75 kg of Ethanol and 250 g of Tallow into 25 kg of Gold Amalgam per cycle per Regal Bammoth, and it is the only renewable way to obtain Metal Ores aside from Space Destinations, Space POIs or Meteor Showers.
