Tempshift Plate
Has a small area of effect.
Tempshift Plate is a Background Building with the sole purpose of enhancing the exchange of heat. It has a size of 1x1 but exchanges heat within a space of 3x3 space around itself.
As a Background Building, it does not occupy the space for purpose of blocking construction of most other buildings (with exception of tiles, doors, and other background buildings). It is found under Utilities (Building).
Its high mass, large footprint, and material selection makes it superb for the purpose of equalizing temperature within an area (for example in a heat exchanger) and for holding heat to prevent sudden changes in temperature (such as in Natural Gas Geyser).
It will equalize the temperature in its area of effect, including itself. Due to that, it may cause sharp temperature drops or spikes when it is installed. The speed of temperature exchange depends on the material used to construct the Tempshift Plate.
Consult Guide/Heat Transfer and Guide/Temperature Management.
Mechanics
A Tempshift Plate will exchange heat with (almost) anything in a 3x3 tile space centered on the plate:
- Solid, Liquid, and Gas Cells
- All kinds of Tiles found in the Base (Building) category, excluding Mesh Tiles and Airflow Tiles
- Closed Manual Airlocks, Mechanized Airlocks and Bunker Doors (any tile they occupy)
- Transit Tube Crossings
- Heavi-Watt Joint Plates and Heavi-Watt Conductive Joint Plates
- Farm Tiles, Hydroponic Farms, Fish Releases and Fish Feeders
- Weight Plates
- The solid tiles of Gantries (the ones with black and yellow stripes)
A Tempshift Plate will not exchange heat with anything not listed above, most notably:
- Other Tempshift Plates (sic!)
- Machines
- Mesh Tiles and Airflow Tiles
- Opened Manual Airlocks, Mechanized Airlocks and Bunker Doors
- Drywall
- Pipes
They also act similarly to Drywall and prevent gases and liquids from being removed inside the Space Biome.
Tempshift Plates can be made from the following materials:

Tips
- Since Diamond has a very high Thermal Conductivity and very limited uses (Window Tiles and Aero Pots), it is a prime material for Tempshift Plates. Refined Metals should only be used if necessary, due to their large amount of other uses.
- If large areas need to be covered with Tempshift Plates a relatively conductive Raw Mineral, such as Granite, works well.
- They can also be used as a thermal mass if necessary (Ice and Dirt work well). Water tiles (normally up to 1000 kg of mass) are better suited in numeric terms but solids are generally simpler, plentiful, and far easier to work with.
- Tempshift Plates can be used to augment cooling of buildings or fluids with the Anti Entropy Thermo-Nullifier. (See Guide Base Cooling)
- Using Tempshift Plates can help keep Plants from stifling due to temperature by enabling cooling of Farm Tiles and their environment.
