The Tundra Asteroid is nothing but a tall and thin Frozen Biome, containing all the expected materials and plants, including Wolframite as well as various metal volcanoes. It gets much colder than a Frozen Biome near the bottom (around -130°C), and the player will eventually be digging through Solid Carbon Dioxide.

Strategy

There are no short-term food or oxygen solutions on this planetoid due to its distance and the lack of dirt and water, but the player can use a Petroleum-powered rocket, a Trailblazer module can send a dupe to the surface and provide half the refined metal for a rocket platform. An additional Orbital Cargo Module can send down the rest of the refined Metal to build a rocket platform, landing the rocket provides a full set of life support aboard the Solo Spacefarer Module to keep a Duplicant fed and breathing while they set up infrastructure.

Some mid-term solutions include:

  • Collecting the sleet wheat grains produced by the wild plants in the asteroid, 10 plants when harvested by a duplicant should provide enough food if it's desired to stay in the planetoid for a longer period of time than the food on-board can last, an electric grill and a cuisine skill will be needed to cook the grains into frost buns.
  • Packing glass allows you to place enough solar panels for the basic needs of colonization and maintaining the systems inside the rocket.
  • Melting part of the asteroid can provide the water to electrolyse oxygen for a duplicant.

If you don't feel like tackling this asteroid immediately, it may be worth popping open one of the metal volcanoes to melt some ice and get some free Refined Metal. Just make sure to seal off the surface so no steam or oxygen escapes.
