The Radbolt Generator collects radiation from the surrounding area to create Radbolts. Like the Radbolt Reflector, bolts can be configured to emit in eight directions around its output port.

The collection rate is 1 Radbolt per 10 rads per cycle (rounded down). For example, a generator exposed to the 218 rads per cycle found in exposed space will collect 21 Radbolts per cycle. Exposure is calculated based on the bottom tile (the green hexagons).

The generator fires a Radbolt projectile after its contents have reached a certain configured amount (default at 50 Radbolts, up to 500).

Stored Radbolts are rapidly lost when the building is disabled or power is not maintained.

Tips

  • A Generator can fire a Radbolt past other Generators.
  • Stacking Wheezewort near one or multiple Radbolt Generator(s) or exposing them to space radiation are two of the simplest ways to generate radbolts in the early game.
  • The collection rate can be increased by placing the bottom tile of the building in a vacuum. This is because most materials have a radiation blocking property, even gases.
    • Rotating a generator 180° allows the output tile to be placed in a small amount of liquid coolant, allowing heat to be conducted away from the generator without reducing radbolt output. While the radbolts will travel through the coolant, radbolts decay at the same rate regardless of whether they are in a vacuum or a fluid.
  • Since they do not have an Overheat Temperature they can simply be built in space. It takes 182 cycles to melt Igneous Rock Radbolt Generators from their own heat.
  • The bolt the Radbolt Generator shoots will lose 0.1 radbolts per tile and disappear when reaching 0.

Trivia

  • In earlier builds, disabling the generator with automation would only stop it from firing Radbots, but let it continue to absorb Rads and consume power. This allowed it to acccumlate Radbolts without any limit.
