The Alveo Vera is a cold-loving plant that consumes Carbon Dioxide and Ice to produce Oxylite, which offgasses into breathable Oxygen after harvesting. Alveo Veras can be found growing naturally within the Ice Cave Biome.

Usage

Due to their availability and a the abundance of Ice in the starting Ice Cave Biome, Alveo Vera plants are often the first source of sustainable Oxygen that a player will make use of when starting on the Ceres Asteroid.

Domestic & Wild Growth

Domestic

Domestic Alveo Veras inhale 1200g/cycle (2g/s) of Carbon Dioxide and consume 20kg/cycle (~33.33g/s) of Ice as fertilizer. They take 2 cycles to grow, dropping 36kg of Oxylite when harvested, resulting in a maximum theoretical output of up to 18kg/cycle (30g/s) of Oxylite per domestic plant (assuming no buffs).

Wild

Wild Alveo Veras inhale 300g/cycle (0.5g/s) of Carbon Dioxide. They take 8 cycles to grow, dropping 36kg of Oxylite when harvested, resulting in a maximum output of 4.5kg/cycle (7.5g/s) of Oxylite per wild plant (assuming no buffs).

Oxygen & Carbon Dioxide Economy

Below are two tables comparing the production and consumption of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide between Duplicants and Alveo Veras (without growth buffs).

Change in Oxygen vs. Change in Carbon Dioxide
Oxygen
(g/cycle)
Carbon Dioxide
(g/cycle)
Duplicant -60000 +1200
Domesticated Alveo Vera +18000 -1200
Wild Alveo Vera +4500 -300
# of Alveo Veras required to create enough Oxygen to sustain one Duplicant vs. # of Alveo Veras required to consume the Carbon Dioxide output of one Duplicant
Oxygen Carbon Dioxide
Domestic Alveo Veras per Duplicant 3.3 1
Wild Aleo Veras per Duplicant 13.3 4

Note that since mature Alveo Veras temporarily stop producing Oxylite until they are harvested, the maximum amount of Oxygen that they can produce will always be less than the theoretical maximum during gameplay.

As shown in the graph above, at least ~3.33 domestic (or ~13.33 wild) Alveo Veras are required to create enough Oxygen to sustain one Duplicant. However, each domestic Alveo Vera consumes the same amount of Carbon Dioxide exhaled by one Duplicant (2 g/s). Therefore, assuming all of the Carbon Dioxide being exhaled by Duplicants is being fed back to Alveo Veras, the remaining plants will need to have additional Carbon Dioxide supplied. This means that regardless of whether domestic or wild plants are used, at least 4.67 g/s of additional Carbon Dioxide will have to be created per Duplicant.

  • The ratio of Oxygen Produced to Carbon Dioxide Consumed can be substantially increased by applying growth speed buffs via Farmer's Touch/Grubgrub Rub/plant mutations.

Water to Oxygen Economy

Because one domestic Alveo Vera converts 33.33g/s of Ice into 30g/s of Oxylite, the regular domestic Alveo Vera's maximum theoretical conversion rate of Water to Oxygen is 90%.

  • The conversion rate can be substantially increased (even above 100%) by applying growth speed buffs via Farmer's Touch/Grubgrub Rub/plant mutations.
