Radbolt
Radbolts are radioactive particles produced in Radbolt Generators and Manual Radbolt Generators to be used in research and space travel. Once emitted into the world, radbolt projectiles follow a straight line where they can be redirected by Radbolt Reflectors and Radbolt Joint Plates while constantly decaying into low levels of radiation and Radioactive Contaminants.
Radbolt projectiles can impact on Duplicants, Critters, other radbolts and solid materials, possibly releasing their energy in a brief radiation explosion along with some Nuclear Fallout and heat.
Radbolt Chambers can store up to 1000 radbolts while preventing their decay.
Production
- Manual Radbolt Generators convert Uranium Ore or Enriched Uranium into radbolts and Depleted Uranium.
- 1 kg Uranium Ore = 5 radbolts + 500 g Depleted Uranium.
- 1 kg Enriched Uranium = 25 radbolts + 800 g Depleted Uranium.
- Radbolt Generators collect 1 radbolt per cycle for each 10 rads per cycle of ambiant radiation.
Usage
- Materials Study Terminals will convert 10 radbolts into 1 Applied Sciences Research point.
- Diamond Presses can turn radbolts into Diamond. 1000 radbolts + 100 kg Refined Carbon = 100 kg Diamond.
- Radbolt Engines consume 200 radbolts per hex traveled.
- Interplanetary Launchers consume 10 radbolts per hex distance per payload.
Radbolts in motion
While in motion, radbolt projectiles lose 0.1 radbolt per tile and leave behind 5 Radioactive Contaminant 'germs' in that medium. In a vacuum, projectiles still lose radbolts but don't leave behind contaminants.
Radbolt projectiles always emit 0.2 rads per cycle (Mostly Safe) in a radius of 3 tiles.
If a projectile runs out of radbolts, it simply vanishes without releasing anything.
Radbolt collisions
When projectiles collide with Duplicants, Critters and other radbolts, the following is released on the impact tile per radbolt contained:
- 33.3 rads per cycle of radiation for 1 second, in a radius of 6 tiles;
- 1 g of Nuclear Fallout emitted at 5000°K for every radbolt contained in the projectile;
- and 50 Radioactive Contaminants.
Collisions with duplicants and critters will inflict them with 20 damage points while duplicants also get applied with 50 Radioactive Contaminants per radbolt as surface germs.
Projectiles colliding with any solid tiles (including Window, but not Pneumatic Doors) will disintegrate and release nothing. The tile hit will lose 1g x radbolts amount of mass.
Radbolt projectiles colliding with Airflow Tile or inside a Mesh Tile create a burst of nuclear fallout, with the mass equal to the number of radbolts in grams.
Since the explosion is so brief, even 500 radbolts only result in a low amount of radiation absorbed by a nearby Duplicant (500 radbolts = 16666.7 rads per cycle = 27.8 rads absorbed, ignoring the effects of the nuclear fallout).
(The example below is from a prior version and displays incorrect values.)
Tips
- Since radbolt projectiles are harmful to critters, they can be used as a means to automate Meat production without waiting for the critter to starve or drown.
