Rime Asteroid is an Asteroid Type in the game of Oxygen Not Included. It features a frozen world with some geothermal activity. Due to the unique presence of 10 out of 11 existing biomes and the in-game nature of heat management, Rime Asteroid can be considered an introductory, beginner-friendly preset.

Biomes

Example Rime world. Notice that all biomes except Barren Biome are present.

The Rime Asteroid is composed of following Biomes:

One Biome is missing in Rime:

Different from other Asteroid Types, Rime has 10 Biome types instead of 8.

Polluted Water

Swamp Biome has Polluted Water.

Raw Minerals

Forest Biome and Caustic Biome has Igneous Rock. Swamp Biome and Tide Pool Biome has Sedimentary Rock.

Metal Ores

Caustic Biome has Iron Ore. Swamp Biome has Gold Amalgam.

Swamp Biome has seeds of Thimble Reed.

Rime uniquely lacks wild Dreckos and Slicksters, which might lead to troubles with phosphorite (no fertilizer, domesticated Pincha Peppers, etc) and plastic production, as well as to a long-term excess of Carbon Dioxide (albeit CO2 always can be vented into space).

Since there is no other source of those critters except Printing Pod's deliveries playing on Rime with care packages turned off can provide a unique challenge.

Industry

Rime has no issue with industry.

Heat Management

The game starts in a cold state. Player has to heat the base for Plants to grow. Once the base temperature is stabilized, which can be assisted by volcanoes, it is pretty easy for the remainder of the game.

Germs

Due to the cold, Slimelung tends to die out early in the game. The germs created by Infectious Polluted Oxygen Vents and Morbs can still survive once their surroundings have warmed up.

Trivia

  • Rime is named SandstoneFrozen in game code.
