Brine is a source of Water and Salt. It is naturally obtainable in low temperature areas of Ocean Biome.
Usage
Desalinator can turn Brine into Water and Salt. 5 kg/s Brine = 3.5 kg/s Water + 1.5 kg/s Salt.
When heated to 105.75 °C222.35 °F (vaporization point +3 °C+5.4 °F), brine will turn into Steam (70% mass) and Salt (30% mass). This is heat deleting, as the combined SHC of the products is 3.1353 SHC. Running hot (> 40 °C104 °F) brine through a desalinator is heat deleting as well.
Production
Brine is naturally obtainable in low temperature areas of Ocean Biome.
When cooling Salt Water down to -10.5 °C13.1 °F (freezing point -3 °C-5.4 °F), it will turn into Ice (77% mass) and brine (23% mass).
Melting Brine Ice will turn it into Brine.
It can be harvested on rocket missions to renewable Space POIs:
- In Salty Asteroid Fields at a rate of 216 – 648 kg per cycle.
- In Interstellar Oceans at a rate of 37.5 – 125 kg per cycle.
Tips
- A tile of Brine Ice can be created by freezing brine. To form a tile of brine ice by freezing, the mass of the brine must exceed 800 kg. If the tile is 800 kg or less it will fall as debris.
- Brine Ice is the best ice to use if you wish to create a thermal ice block. Unlike other waters it does not get its specific heat capacity halved when frozen so has the best specific heat capacity of all waters and it also can fit up to 1200 kg in a single tile.
