Biobot Builder is a Story Trait that can generate in asteroids or planetoids, which is focused around the building of the same name. As the name suggests it is used to build the Biobot P.E.G.G.Y. , short for "Pathogen-Fueled Extravechicular Geo-Exploratory Guidebot (model Y)",

Description

The Biobot Builder story trait generates a single point of interest: a room made of Obsidian mosaic tiles with Obsidian Drywall throughout and accessable via two Gravitas Doors. The wall is partially replaced with Abyssalite. In addition to the Biobot Builder itself, the room features two Lockers, , two Light Fixtures, a Computer Desk, an Office Plant, a Clock and one Wall Cabinet.

The Biobot Building itself is a building 5-by-4 cells in size with Gas in- and output, plus an Automation input and can store 1800 kg Steel.

Progress

When initially discovered, the Biobot Builder is inactive.

Initiation

The first step to begin the story trait is to activate the building. This must be done by a duplicant and manually requested in the Builder's interface.

First P.E.G.G.Y.

Once activated, the Biobot Builder must be supplied with 300 kg Steel and 9.850.000 Zombie Spores, half of which are already stored. Steel can delivered by a duplicant and Zombie Spores need to be supplied via Gas Pipes. When Gas is piped in, 10.000 germs/s are sieved into the building, and the Gas with all remaining germs is expelled trough the buildings' Gas Output.

The easiest way to get Zombie Spores in Gas is planting a Sporechid in Carbon Dioxide. Two Sporechid Seeds can be obtained by emptying the Wall Cabinet and more Sporechids are found in the Oil biome.

After enough Steel and Zombie Spores are delivered, the first biobot can be built. This requires a duplicant with the Advanced Medical Care skill.

Completion

Once the first P.E.G.G.Y. is build, the story trait is ready for completion via the notifications in the interface. Completing the story trait gives a reward of one Keepsake, the Toy Bot, which can be displayed on a Pedestal. The Biobot Builder remains active and can be used to create more Biobots.

Biobot

Biobots are robots that can do basic tasks, similar to a Rover. Their Steel body allows then to work in hostile environments, for example inside Magma.

Each biobot has 10 cycles worth of energy stored. Upon its depletion, biobot dies, droping its pod, which has deconstruct command automatically applied. Once deconstructed, all 300 kg of steel used to build a biobot are retrieved.

Thus, operational cost of continuously running a Biobot Builder is 240 W of power to run a gas pump plus occasional duplicant labor. Energy cost can be lowered by cycling gas from gas exhaust of Biobot Builder to its intake until it runs out of germs. Then old packets of gas have to be replaced with new ones.
