Ore Scrubber is a Utility Building that uses Chlorine to kill Germs on items. Chlorine used by the Ore Scrubber is consumed.
Despite its name, it apparently cleans everything, not just ore.
Tips
- Ore Scrubbers are used to remove germs from items carried directly by Duplicants, such as Polluted Dirt from an Outhouse or a Water Sieve handling germy water, or Slimelung-contaminated Slime. It will not remove germs spread to Duplicants when picking up contaminated debris.
- It is worth putting two or more of these down next to each other as a Duplicant will ignore an Ore Scrubber if it is already in use.
- Automation might help space out how many Duplicants pass by Ore Scrubbers, but a guaranteed method to force scrubbing is to setup doors with very limited permissions. The tradeoff is that disinfecting materials will take significantly longer, since fewer Duplicants will be able to participate.
- Slime often starts with up to 900,000 germs of Slimelung per block, requiring two passes through Ore Scrubbers to fully disinfect.
- If digging is set to a higher priority than storing, Duplicants will dig out multiple blocks of Slime and then collect it all together, which adds up the total germs to far higher levels than two Ore Scubbers can handle. Setting storing higher than digging will help guarantee they carry out Slime immediately after mining it.
- Ore Scrubbers also removes germs from bottled fluids if they are being carried by a Duplicant. This can be used to remove Food Poisoning from clean water after it's been sieved.
- Gases containing airborne germs can also be scrubbed if they are taken from a Canister Filler. This may be useful when dealing with Zombie Spores infesting Carbon Dioxide.
- Placing Ore Scrubbers within a Chlorine atmosphere allows the scrubbed material to benefit from both the operation of the Ore Scrubber itself, as well as the natural disinfection provided by being surrounded by Chlorine, which can considerably increase its effectiveness at removing germs. This will also help to clean Duplicants of germs spread to them from picking up contaminated debris.
