Space Heater produces a moderate amount of Heat in its immediate vicinity. It will stop working when environmental temperature reaches 70 °C (158 °F). It will not operate without a gas around it.

Tips

Space Heaters are not particularly efficient at producing heat with only 150 DTU/s per Watt. Their advantage lies in their simplicity: they are cheap to build (compared to infrastructure), cheap to power (no more than a diffuser, much less than a Tepidizer), they automate easily with a nearby Thermo Sensor. If the goal is to nudge a room's temperature up by a few degrees on short notice, the Space Heater is a simple, practical choice for almost any colony.

However, in the long term, efficiencies become very powerful. Consider using Liquid Tepidizer (~4200 DTU/s per Watt), the Ice Maker (266 DTU per watt and also supplies useful Ice), or sourcing heat from natural sources (Geyser). Some well placed Metal Tile, Tempshift Plate, or even Ceramic are simpler because these do not need logistical support, and they may be used in combination with any of the preceding.

Once the colony has established piping for the output from electrolysis or deoxidizing, or obtained access to such as Magma plus Steel, moving existing or excess heat becomes the most sustainable choice. With careful channeling and choice of material for the piping, the colony can use gases or fluids to heat things like plants that need high temperatures (e.g. Pincha Pepper) through the pipes, and route the contents elsewhere for use, storage or disposal.

Trivia

When active, the Space Heater plays the sound of the Florid Postern from Don't Starve Together, another game by Klei.
