Petroleum is a Power source refined from Crude Oil.
It is also an essential ingredient in the production of Plastic.

Petroleum is a late game, powerful fuel for Power generation and Rocket engines. It stacks up to 740 kg/tile when not pressurized.
Occurrences
Petroleum can appear naturally if some map regions are sufficiently overheated, which leads to Crude Oil transformation or Molten Slicksters births.
Production
- Molten Slicksters produce 10 kg of Petroleum by consuming 20 kg of Carbon Dioxide per cycle.
- Petroleum can be obtained from Crude Oil using an Oil Refinery with 50 % efficiency:
- 10 kg/s Crude Oil = 5 kg/s Petroleum + 90 g/s Natural Gas.
- Alternatively, Crude Oil can be heated above 402.85 °C757.13 °F (turning point + 3 °C) and below 541.85 °C1007.33 °F (vaporization point + 3 °C), converting it into Petroleum with 100 % efficiency.
Gunk may also be heated in order to convert 92% of its mass into Petroleum and 8% into Sulfur respectively.
Usage
- Petroleum can be heated to 541.85 °C1007.33 °F (vaporization point + 3 °C) and converted to Sour Gas, which in turn can be cooled to -164.5 °C-264.1 °F (turning point - 3 °C), turning it into 66.6% liquid Methane and 33.3 % solid Sulfur.
- Polymer Press transforms Petroleum into Plastic.
- Petroleum Generator can burn Petroleum to generate Power.
- Petroleum Engine burns Petroleum as a rocket fuel.
- Blastshot Maker consumes Petroleum to make Blastshot.
- Exosuit Forge uses Petroleum to produce Jet Suits.
- Jet Suit Docks consume it to refill exosuit's jetpacks.
- Emulsifier consumes Petroleum with:
- Isosap to produce Visco-Gel.
- Fullerene and Gold to produce Super Coolant.
- Outside of recipes, petroleum is useful in of itself.
- Petroleum's great temperature range (596 degrees) makes it resilient to freezing/boiling when used for liquid airlocks
- Petroleum can be heated to steam temperatures, making it a good choice as a Metal Refinery coolant when used in conjunction with Steam Turbines
- Petroleum can be be used to maintain Deep Freeze temperatures to prevent food spoilage
