Sandstone is a Mineral that exists predominantly in the Temperate Biome.

Sandstone makes up a huge proportion of all natural blocks in the Temperate Biome and is present in smaller quantities in other biomes. Sandstone blocks closest to the Printing Pod come in 700 kg and 1840 kg and range from 600 kg to 1200 kg elsewhere. It has a hardness of 10 (Soft), making it as easy to dig as sand, but this also makes it a poor material to hold large quantities of water. Its low heat capacity and relatively high thermal conductivity makes it a poor insulator against higher temperatures. Additionally, Sandstone carries a +10% Decor bonus for buildings built with it.

Usage

Due to its ease of access and availability, Sandstone is a very convenient and reliable source of building material and is very likely to be the first construction material to be used in the start of a new game. Its 10% Decor bonus can be beneficial for buildings such as paintings and sculptures, though note that Granite.pngGranite Magma.png is a better choice that gives a +20% bonus.

Sandstone's very low hardness translates to a tendency to break under high pressures, which will lead to leaks. This can sometimes be circumvented by building Tiles two spaces thick, but in general it's better to use a harder material to store large volumes of liquids.
