Coal is a Consumable Ore found in the Temperate and Caustic Biomes. It can be used to create power using a Coal Generator. Hatches produce Coal after consuming enough resources.

Usage

• Coal can be used to generate Power in the Coal Generator.

  1 kg/s Coal = 600 W Power + 20 g/s Carbon Dioxide.

• Coal can be used in Kiln to produce Refined Carbon (which is further used in Steel production) and Ceramic.

  125 kg Coal = 100 kg Refined Carbon.

  100 kg Clay + 25 kg Coal = 100 kg Ceramic.

• Apothecary uses coal in some medicine recipes:
  • Vitamin Chews, that slightly increase germ resistance for 1 cycle

    1 kg Coal = 1 unit Vitamin Chews.

  • Curative Tablet, which cures Food Poisoning.

    1 kg Coal + 1 kg Water = 1 unit Curative Tablet.

Production

Hatches, Sage Hatches and Stone Hatches excrete Coal from various Resources. Note, that Smooth Hatches do not excrete Coal.

Coal can also be harvested from Carbon Asteroids, although the energy value gained from burning that Coal is way less than the energy value of the Petroleum spent on the Rocket travel.

It can be harvested on rocket missions to renewable Space POIs:

• In Carbon Asteroid Fields at a rate of 235.8 – 707.4 kg per cycle.
• In Glimmering Asteroid Fields at a rate of 30 – 90 kg per cycle.

Note

Coal is a renewable resource if produced via Hatch ranching, as Hatches can be fed with renewable resources, or if gathered on Carbon Asteroids, as they replenish themselves renewably.
