Sand is a filtration medium that exists predominantly in the Temperate Biome and Tide Pool Biome.
Properties
When Sand is heated to 1715.85 °C (melting point + 3 °C), it turns into Molten Glass.
Tiles of Sand will collapse if there are no other solid tiles beneath them and entomb anything that they fall onto. Other resources exhibit this behaviour (see this category).
Usage
Water Sieve uses Sand to filter Polluted Water into Water:
- 5 kg/s Polluted Water + 1 kg/s Sand = 5 kg/s Water + 200 g/s Polluted Dirt
Deodorizer uses Sand to filter Polluted Oxygen into Oxygen:
- 100 g/s Polluted Oxygen + 133.33 g/s Sand = 90 g/s Oxygen + 143.33 g/s Clay
Glass Forge produces Molten Glass from Sand:
- 100 kg Sand = 25 kg Molten Glass
Hatches eat Sand and excrete Coal.
Dasha Saltvine domestic growth requires 7 kg of Sand per cycle.
Production
- Like sandstone, most of the sand generated in the game is found in the Temperate Biome. Sizable sand deposits can be occasionally found in the Caustic Biome. Oasisse Asteroid contains lots of hot Sand.
- Rock Crusher breaks Salt and various rocks into Sand. Renewable sources include:
- Recovering Salt from Salt Water Geyser or Cool Salt Slush Geyser and crafting Table Salt.
- Cooling the magma from Volcano or Minor Volcano into Igneous Rock and crushing it into sand.
- Breaking Ceramic into Sand, then returning it into Deodorizer, and obtaining Clay. Process is mass - posistive, efectivly converting 10 kg of Polluted Oxygen and 2,5 kg of Coal into 10 kg of Sand. Cost of Coal can be disregarded if Clay will be heated directly, without using Kiln.
- Fullerene crafted at Molecular Forge can be crushed back into Graphite, effectively converting Sulfur and Aluminum into Sand. This would require a Sulfur Geyser and a Aluminum Volcano to be infinitely sustainable.
- Pokeshell eats Polluted Dirt and Rot Pile, and excretes Sand.
- Dirt turns into Sand when overheated.
- It can be harvested on rocket missions to renewable Space POIs:
- In Sandy Ore Fields at a rate of 162 kg – 486 kg per cycle.
- In Space Debris at a rate of 90 kg – 270 kg per cycle.
